This Wisdom Shot is from Dr. Jim's upcoming new book, Jesus Under The Hood, which features Jesus as the head mechanic at his garage staffed by his disciples Peter, James and John.
James looked over at a dented car they’d been working on all morning. “So, where do we start if we want to tune up our lives like we do these cars?”
Jesus gestured to the car. “First, ask yourself, ‘What are you focusing on?’ If all you see are dents and dings, you’re missing out on the bigger picture. Imagine what it feels like to drive a fully restored car. If you let doubt and despair creep in, say to yourself, ‘You’re not welcome here.’ Focus only on the good you want to create.”
Peter laughed, “So, if the check engine light of my mind is on, I ignore it?”
“Not quite, Peter,” Jesus chuckled. “Acknowledge it, but then focus on what you want. Your life is built on what you give your attention to. If you keep looking at the negative, you’re bound to see more of it. But when you focus on the blessing in front of you, good things grow.”
John nodded thoughtfully. “So we’re all running on the Law of Attraction, whether we know it or not.”
“Exactly,” Jesus agreed. “And remember, ‘Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.’ When you’re clear about what you want, you’re more likely to see it appear. But if your mind is cluttered with worries and complaints, you’ll miss it.”
